This volume recaps the first 100 years of the South Carolina Medical Association and details the SCMA’s remarkable expansion in services and influence since our centennial celebration in 1948.

It travels through the fear of the Cold War years, the imposition of Medicare and Medicaid, the growth of health insurance programs, professional liability insurance difficulties, environmental concerns, the HIV/AIDS debate, ballooning health care costs, and the resurgence of the medical malpractice insurance crisis. The book also features photos and biographies of SCMA Presidents from 1948-2005.

About the Author

Elizabeth Jill Wilson has been writ­ing for more than 25 years. She served as a broadcast and print journalist in West Virginia and South Carolina for 15 years, including as the broadcast editor and statehouse reporter for The Associated Press. She was press secretary to West Virginia Governor Gaston Caperton for four years. She subsequently published The Caperton fears: 1993-1997. a two-volume compendium of the governor's official papers and policies. The West Virginia native lives on a farm in her home state with her husband and their two Pembroke Welsh Corgis.
